2015 Bayou Regional

The Pontchartrain Center in Kenner was the site of the 2015 FIRST Robotics Bayou Regional. Teams from Louisiana were joined by teams from all over the United States and one team from Mexico in their pursuit to qualify for a chance to compete in the St Louis World Championships. The road these teams were on began six weeks before the Bayou Regional. Once the 2015 competition Recycle Rush the student teams began to design, build and program their robots for the game. The student-built, student-programed and student-driven robots can weigh up to 120-lb.

FIRST Robotics challenges teams of students to raise funds, design a team "brand," hone teamwork skills, and build and program robots to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors. Volunteer mentors give their time and talents to support and guide each team.

The robots from twenty-seven Louisiana teams competed for honors in several categories. The three-team alliance of Team 3039 Wildcats Robotics from Destrehan, Team 3937 of Breakaway Searcy (AR) and Team 3646 from Slidell became the Regional Champions winning the right to compete in St Louis.

FIRST values of Gracious Professionalism and Coopertition® are on display even as the teams begin to set up their "pit" areas. Gracious Professionalism emphasizes respecting others and valuing the work of everyone and Coopertition® is partially demonstrated in the display of help and respect even during fierce competition. Together they foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.
