FETCH 2010 - Oil & Energy Saturday – Louisiana Children’s Museum

On Saturday, August 21, 2010, API and SPE coordinated the FETCH Saturday at the Louisiana Children's Museum. This event had 15 exhibits hosted by 9 different societies highlighting science and math principles. The focus of the event was to show how math and science can be fun as well as to provide educational outreach for children ages 2-16, parents, and teachers.

The event had around 700 visitors and ran from 11 AM to 3 PM. What is equally impressive is that we had 61 volunteers show up to represent our industry.

The participating organizations and their exhibits were:

API - Receive a free classroom energy CD
API - Minerals, Rocks & Fossils (Examine and identify rocks, minerals and fossils up close)
SPWLA - Rock Measurements (Learn about rock property's measurements)
SGS - Sounds through the Ground (Listen to sounds through the ground)
NACE - Corrosion Science (Learn about how corrosion occurs)
NACE - NACE Fruit Battery (Transform fresh fruit into a working battery)
NOGS Oil Finder Game (Play an oil finder game using drilling dollars)
NOGS Fossil and Mineral Collection (Meet meat eating and plant eating dinosaurs from the NOGS collection)
NOGS - Forams with Microscope (Look through a microscope to use organisms to date rocks)
NOGS Tapestry of Time and Terrain (Use a geologic map of the USA to identify geologic occurrences and places)
NOGS - Sand Box (Dig for dinosaur bones in a sand box)
NSBE - Boats Afloat (Design a boat out of aluminum foil to hold a lot of pennies)
SPE - Magic Suitcase (Explore a magic suitcase)
SWE - Gumdrop Domes (Build a geodesic dome out of gumdrops and toothpicks)
