Once again, API - Delta participated as a Gold Sponsor for the FIRST LEGO League and Junior FIRST Lego League competitions. This year the Louisiana championship tournament was held on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Dominican High School.
The Delta Chapter of API was recently lauded at a “Day of Reflection” breakfast held at Chalmette High School on August 28 in commemoration of the 4th Anniversary of Katrina’s devastation of St. Bernard Parish. The school system hosted a breakfast for over 500 community members, and many of the system’s partners, including API-Delta Chapter, were invited to be part of the event.
This year marked the 5th anniversary of our popular API Delta Chapter family clay tournament. Despite challenging industry conditions we had great support from our sponsors, shooters, and volunteers. Over 40 teams participated on a great weather weekend at Covey Rise Lodge in Husser, LA. API Delta Chapter was very pleased to offer a fun and safe event for our industry families
Congratulations to Jan Catalano and Lisa Ingraham, recipients of the 2008 API Meritorious Service Award! On March 17, 2009, eighteen (18) local petroleum industry societies honored the two 2008 recipients at a luncheon held at the Holiday Inn Superdome.
Once again the stands were filled with supporting fans at The FIRST Robotics Bayou Regional Robotics Competition which was held March 19-21, 2009. This year the tournament was held at the UNO Arena. Thirty-Four teams from nine different states competed in the tournament.
The American Petroleum Institute – Delta Chapter awarded 22 scholarships for 2009 – 2010. The goal of the API – Delta Chapter scholarship program is to help students of exceptional promise reach their full potential through education. Scholarships are given for a wide variety of experiences, career goals and higher education plans. However, API has given preferences to those pursuing a career in Petroleum or Chemical Engineering, Geology and the sciences.
API – Delta Chapter, and several other petroleum industry societies and organizations volunteered their time and/or monies to sponsor the BLAST/FIRST LEGO League Louisiana Championship Tournament again this year.
