As many of you know, the Carville Job Corps Academy is run by MINACT Incorporated (www.minact.com). MINACT's contract to operate the center came up for renewal last month. A few weeks ago, the Department of Labor informed MINACT that MINACT had not been awarded the contract to continue to operate the center.
In an effort to promote energy education, API-Delta and SPE-Delta pooled resources to host a teacher workshop in Oil and Natural Gas Education. Teachers from the Greater New Orleans area spent a week of their summer vacation attending the Denver Earth Science Project Workshop developed by the Colorado School of Mines.
This April, the API Delta Chapter celebrated its 7th annual Father/Son and Family Sporting Clays Tournament. Despite challenging industry conditions, we had great support from our sponsors, shooters, and volunteers.
The Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair (GNOSEF) was held on February 23rd at the UNO Human Performance Center. API judged the Senior Division of the Energy Category. The winners and their teachers were recognized and presented awards on February 24th.
Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE) Director Michael R. Bromwich addressed a crowd of 400 for the API/Delta Chapter's Meritorious Service Award Program. The event was held in March at the Sheraton Hotel in New Orleans.
API – Delta Chapter recently announced the winners for its 2011/2012 scholarship awards. The goal of the API – Delta Chapter scholarship program is to help students of exceptional promise reach their full potential through education.
The 2010 API Delta Chapter Golf tournament held on September 17th at the Covington Country Club was a huge success!! Despite the current economic environment and drilling moratorium, 39 teams participated in the popular two-round tournament.
